on my two month-trip to ghana (westafrica) in 2001 i met apphia patrick yeboah, one of the directors of the little „powerfull drum shop“at the art center in accra, right next to the beach. we became friends and i bought some of his products, a djembé and a kpanlogo. beeing back in switzerland, andreas ermatinger (head of „gianinni swiss drums“ in zürich) showed his interest and we started to import apphia’s beautiful artwork together.
the djembés are available in three different sizes (small, medium, big), they have a powerfull, agressive but still warm sound, are double-woven (keeps the tuning well) and have nice, individual carvings on it. because of the direct import we can sell them for only 350.- to 450.- sfr.
on special request we also import
- kpanlogo (a conga-like, really ghanaian drum with a warm, raw sound)
- doum-doum (set of three „bass“drums)
- bell (handhammered iron, set of 1 high and 1 low)
- talking drum/donno (1-stick-played drum with voicelike variable pitch)
you can test the djembés at the giannini swiss drums shop, aegertenstrasse 8, ch-8003 zürich, phone: 0041 (0)1 461 76 43, www.giannini-drums.ch or order directly: eglidominic@hotmail.com.
